On September 15, the Mira Mesa High School football team took on our rivals Scripps Ranch. Coming off a close win against Scripps last year, the Marauders had lots of pressure on them to win. Although this was an away game for both teams at University City High School in La Jolla, the Marauder Maniacs had no problem filling up the student section, clad in all blue and face paint to cheer on the team. With the stands filled with students, parents, alumni, and staff; covered in “fried falcon” posters, and blue and yellow streamers, the football team was surely motivated by the school spirit. This showed in the game as the team took a quick lead in the first quarter and carried it through the first half. The student section went crazy, encouraging the team with chants led by the cheerleaders. Watching the Mira Mesa Chargers youth football team and mini cheerleaders support the team was a truly touching moment, especially when the mini cheerleaders got to cheer with the varsity cheerleaders.

As a spectator, I found this game especially exciting because of the exceptional score. All throughout the game, the team maintained a huge lead on the Falcons. This kept the stands going wild and the football team pumped. Mira Mesa football enjoyed some fried falcon, with the final score being 50 – 16.
